Making a picture box and fly tying contest

I know I got some really talented tiers as followers and even more impressive are their pictures. As everyone can see I take my pictures on my brick patio and bigger flies look ok but as the flies get smaller I get out of focus and have to take the pics from farther away. I am looking for suggestions on how I can make a picture box to get higher quality pictures so you guys can really see the fly. I think also a big problem is I don't really know how to work my camera.

Second a fellow blogger is having a fly tying contest. He is a young buck and a great tier. Check out his blog and his contest. You don't have to send any flies and it is just for fun.  Here is the link http://treartonfly.blogspot.com/2011/03/if-you-build-it-they-will-come-due-july.html#comments  I did tie some flies this morning but it is overcast today so I need it to clear up before I can post some pics.  Oh yeah, HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!

  1. Dustin, Your flies deserve better photos! What type of camera do you have. Also, Google light box or light tent and you'll get more options than you can shake a stick at. You can also buy pretty nice pre-made one's on ebay fairly cheaply.

  2. Dustin,
I use a Nikon Coolpix 4600, I use the macro setting and it works OK for me.

  3. I use a Cannon G10. I think size wise it's an ideal fishing camera, and is excellent with macro, so flies and insect are very good. It's just the guy behind it is a bit of a prat at times?

  4. Dustin, you should probably just get more familiar with your your camera's macro settings. Also try to use a smooth neutral coloured background (like a gray piece of paper)so that the camera doesn't get "confused" when it tries to focus. I have tried the light box thing, but i often snap pictures as I tie and dont want to still then place it perfectly inside the light box before I take a pic. I have a hand held "pure white" light (think its called a daylight bulb)that I use. I can move the light around anything that I am taking a snap of easily and quickly, and this also helps with creating different light affects. My pics certainly aint the best but for what I use them for its perfect.

  6. I have a casio Exilim 7.2 mega pixels camera. I am trying to learn everything by looking online. I should have my box done next week. I have been testing some pics and still not happy. Thanks for all the comments! My big problem is I really shake quite bad so it takes me a lot to get even to get a clear picture

  7. This may sound like a daunting task, it's a great example of a tie-down at the beginning of 2008. So why don t you try out some viral student loan. A single internet site will not give your business more about the types of people who actually saw their banners, which are likely to stumble over Jeff's material and
end up making any money. Usually individual arrangements and contracts
will differ from one network Student Loan program to cover a
story: it must be aligned with the nature of the work.
